Scammed by Apple. Again.
On Apple’s website, they claim that “Mastered for iTunes” music is provided as 24/96 256k VBR AAC files, not 16/44 256k non-VBR AAC rips from CDs. So, to see it for myself, I went to iTunes, found a CD in the “Mastered for iTunes” section and bought it. Here’s what I got: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/frampton-comes-alive!-live/id485528517

My thoughts on 3D technology
Back in the early 1980s, I saw a film at the local theater called “Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn.” This was a horrifically bad sci-fi movie, shot in the gimmicky analog 3D that’s so popular again now. Back then, I couldn’t stand 3D because even with the glasses, I saw two distinct pictures, just as if the 3D were out of calibration. These days, I go to the...
I was taking a video of my daughter this morning when I caught an angry driver pass the car in front of them by driving across the earth divider, speed dangerously down the oncoming lane and return to the proper lane, tires digging up the grass.
I want to show it to her and get her permission to post it before I do. It’s an interesting video.
I had an idea for a new novel: a gothic horror (my first in this genre).
I’m outlining it now and really like what I’m creating.
Official start date: TODAY!
I’m very excited about this new project and I’m anxious to get drafts out there for review.

What to do with an iPhone 3G?
Two and a half years ago, I got an iPhone 3G. It’s been good to me and I’ve treated it with kid gloves. It’s still in almost new-like condition.
Recently, I’ve upgraded it to the new white 64GB iPhone 4S and have no clue what to do with the old, but still working well, 3G.
There’s no SIM card in it so I can’t activate it to do anything like just play music on...

LibreOffice 3.5 Release
LibreOffice 3.5 has just been released. In it comes the much asked for live word count window in Writer (something I’ve been asking for since OOo 1.0).
This release makes me a very happy writer. Anyone who uses this program would benefit from all the changes made in all the apps in the suite (and there are many). Go download it!
One more thing, I’ve found that downloading it through...
Apple Scare Tactics
Well, it officially continues. Apparently, this summer will see another OSX release from Apple that integrates more IOS into it than ever before.
Now we see Apple’s scare tactics at work here. Take a look at this:
Apple is trying to frighten people into not allowing any application to be installed that does not come from the App Store or “identified developers,” making people...
My youngest daughter said something to me this morning that inspired me to write an interesting series of children’s books!

Spent all day in bed. Someone came home with the flu and I guess I was the next in line to get it. Starting to feel better, I hope it was just a 24 hour thing.
My friends over at ICDSoft (my ISP) moved me over to a different server that has SSH access free of charge… just because I asked nice.
These guys are great. If you need a decent ISP, take a look at them!
EDIT: I SSH’ed into my ISP from a terminal in Solaris 11 that’s inside a Parallels VM running inside OS X.
I admit, I’m a geek.
Bought a second AppleTV box, this one for the bedroom.
It’s nice to have access to all my content (movies, music, TV shows) at a whim.
I can’t recommend this little black box from Apple enough. It’s addictive to own! Every room should have one.

This morning I woke up and checked my lotto ticket. I won $3. Woo hoo, right? Wrong. I brought the ticket to the local big-chain convenience store and the cashier, not realizing that I had already checked the numbers, ran it through the machine, saw it was a winner, manually stamped it as NOT A WINNER and pocketed my $3.
When I told her that I had already checked the numbers at home and knew I...
